Will grow, that is…
True Brew Comedy Review: It’s got all the elements that make me happy in a comedy show: clean, non-dive bar environment, great comics, great time of night, great night of the week. So where the hell was everyone? I did hear comments at the last show about the echoey acoustics, but I think about 50 bodies would take care of that problem.
What a great line-up there was on that rainy Saturday night, December 20! Belinda Carroll, Dan Weber, Christen Manville, Randy Mendez, JoAnn Schinderle. These are top notch Portland comics who fill the best rooms in Portland, and despite playing to basically me and the other comics, they delivered the funny. I apologize to them all because I don’t have a gigantic laugh, but I was amused and entertained and I invite them to my living room to perform comedy for me any time.
Shannan Hunt is building this room and is joined by the venerable and affable Chris Katami, who helped Shannan build Kelly’s Olympian into a reliable, fun open mic that caters to old crabs like me, who like to be in bed by 8pm, but welcomes the whipper snappers and vets alike. And it’s right after church, so you can go from one weird, ritualistic event in an odd-smelling building to another. Remember, wine to beer, you’re in the clear!
The next show will feature Sean Jordan, Aaron Klopfer, Andy MacDonald, Laila Hamdan and Veronica Heath on Saturday, January 9. Show starts at 8 and accepts donations to support the comics. Open mic following the show. Let’s go ahead and put that on our calendars, shall we?
